COMMUNITY
Community Groups at ASA—Ascension & St. Agnes Community Groups meet regularly on
Monday evenings and Thursday evenings. For more information, contact Matt Joseph (matthewrjoseph@yahoo.com) about the Monday Group. NOTE: The Thursday Night Group will be on summer hiatus until September.
Diabetes Support Group — The next meeting will be held on Thursday, 5 August. All are welcome.
Theology Book Club – The next meeting of the Theology Book Club will take place on Tuesday, 31 August at 7:00 p.m. in the dining room of the Parish House. Save the date. The usual light refreshment will be served and all parishioners are invited to attend.
GETTING INVOLVED
Altar Call — Wouldn’t you enjoy a new way to serve in the parish? We would love to have you serve at the altar, either with the Servers’ Guild or Altar Guild. Members of the Servers’ Guild assist at the altar during high mass, and members of the Altar Guild prepare and care for the altar and its furnishings. Both are vital ministries in the parish.
If you are interested, please speak to Victoria Ebell, Scott Merritt, Tony Nester, or Fr. Lane.
N Street Village -- The regularly scheduled time for our Outreach ministry at N Street Village is the last Monday of the month. Our next date will be Monday, 26 July. We encourage new volunteers to become a part of this ministry. For more information, please contact Chuck Bass, Fred Sutton, Eve Wilkins or Albert Bacon.

Plans for the Summer
A number of Parish activities scale back somewhat over the summer. This allows a time of respite from the sometimes hectic activities of the rest of the year. It also affords Parishioners the opportunity to reflect upon the contributions of the many dedicated staff and volunteers which become more apparent when their ministries slow down or go on hiatus over the summer. We hope that parishioners will also use this time to contemplate how they can become more actively involved in the various ministries of the Parish when full-scale activities resume in the fall. .
The following are among the activities that will be different between now and the Sunday after Labor Day:
Community Groups -- the Thursday Night Group will be on summer hiatus until September.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd—is on hiatus for the summer and will start 12 September 2010.
Flower Guild— During the month of August the High Altar will be decorated simply with ferns.
Coffee Hour —Over the summer the Coffee Hour Team will provide a simpler menu including coffee, juice, and donuts or cookies. Anyone who feels inspired to bring extra goodies is certainly welcome and encouraged to do so.
Music Program — Our Choir completed its regular season on the Feast of Corpus Christi. The choir is scheduled to return on 12 September, the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost (also known as the Sunday after Labor Day). During the absence of the full choir Dr. Burdick, our Organist/Choirmaster, has arranged for individual choir members to rotate serving as cantors and soloists, singing a series of excerpts from Bach Cantatas each Sunday at the Offertory and Communion.
Your Pledge — Please remember that the expenses of the Parish continue during the summer. If you plan to be away it would be greatly appreciated if you could continue to send in your offering. The mailing address of the church may be found on the back cover of this bulletin.

Prayer Books and Hymnals available — Copies of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and the 1940 edition of the Hymnal are now available on specially marked bookshelves in the undercroft. You are welcome to take as many of either as you wish.

Announcement from the Vestry—Bill Glew has been given a great opportunity in his job with Entergy. Bill and John Williford will therefore be relocating to New York City sometime in the next three to nine months (moving specifics have to be worked out as well as the sale of their home), John will be stepping down as Jr. Warden when their move date is finalized. As stated in our by-laws, the Vestry will choose someone to fill his position until our next Annual Meeting (June 2011). The Vestry will do this in the fall with plenty of time to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
We have had the privilege of having Bill and John as members of our church for the last five and a half years. We are sad knowing that we will have to say “good-bye” but it is our hope that we can continue with a mutual ministry to Nicaragua.
Congratulations Bill and John.
