Worship

WORSHIP IS CENTRAL to the life of Ascension and Saint Agnes parish. Mass is celebrated every day of the week. On the First Day of the Week -- Sunday -- we celebrate High Mass with extravagant and elaborate lushness. How could we do less, given the extravagance of Creation and the extravagant and costly gift of redemption of all Creation through the Incarnation and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus?

As you will see elsewhere on this web site, all parish activities are aimed at developing our lives as Christians grateful to God and in service to our neighbors and to one another. The various community groups within the parish, our programs of outreach, programs of formation and discussion, and groups formed for fun and the sheer enjoyment of one another's company all exist to enhance our lives, our understanding, our affections, our compassion for the suffering and those in need, and the fullness of our thanksgiving to God in the action of the Mass.

Our worship is informed by the liturgical calendar, which gives shape to the turn of the year. We give attention to the events in the earthly life of the Lord Jesus and to the lives of the saints and to the changing seasons with the intent that our worship will sanctify the time God gives us.

Tiny cross

O Master, Lord our God, who hast appointed in heaven orders and hosts of angels and archangels for the service of Thy glory: Grant that with our entrance there may be an entrance of holy angels, serving with us, and with us glorifying Thy goodness. For unto Thee are due all glory, honor and worship: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the age of ages. Amen.
